Harper's Homies are back at it again, raising awareness and money for the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis. I am excited to invite you to Step Up for Down Syndrome 2019!! This is an annual event that takes place in Forest Park on June 2nd 2019, at 9:00am. Please join us the for 1 mile awareness walk & donate to help support Harper's Team!
Here is a little bit about our journey:
We were 14 wks pregnant when we were told that our little girl would have Trisomy 21. I remember saying "what is that?" and "tell me what to do, I don't know what to do.. what do I do?" I was in complete shock and disbelief. We had so many emotions, so many unanswered questions and fears. As parents you want the best for your child, you have an image in your head of how your family will look, you dream about sports, and sleep overs, proms and wedding days. I was afraid that none of those things were going to happen now, that my little girl wouldn't get to do any of those things. Looking back at those emotional months I realize that I was looking at it all wrong, and that she can and will do all of those things and we will be there to support and love her through it all.
Harper is 18 months old, and doing amazing, she is crawling, waving hi and bye, giving "High fives" blowing kisses, playing peekaboo and learning to stand. She is has the best smile an infectious laugh and is the best snuggler. When I think back to those scary first few months, I think "how could I ever be afraid to be this wonderful little girls mother." We are extremely grateful for Harper and wouldn't change her for the world!

The Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis has been a wonderful resource for our family. They have provided support, and encouragement, and also introduced us to other families blessed with a little something extra. The welcome package we received when Harper was born was full of handmade blankets, teethers, onesies, socks, and books with touching stories from both the parents and the childs perspective. This organization is amazing, and we are so glad to be apart of it. Lets all chip in and help, so that other families, whose life has taken this special direction, will feel all the love and support this community offers.
Thank you for Stepping Up!
