Shane's Monkey Men
In June, Shane will be 16 years old. It amazes our entire family how much he has accomplished in those 16 years. None of these accomplishments would have been possible without the love and support of our family and friends. A day rarely goes by when Shane’s impact on those around him isn’t noticed. He has grown from the kid that we were afraid would run out the doors at school to the boy who easily navigates throughout high school with everyone saying, ‘hi Shane’, 'Muckerman!', or 'Sugar Shane' as he goes. Clearly not all things are easy for Shane, but as his parents we are proud of the positive impact he can have on the lives of those around him.
Without organizations like the Down Syndrome Association being advocates and breaking down barriers for people with Down Syndrome, Shane would not be so blessed with the many doors that have been opened for him.
Step Up for Down Syndrome (SUDS) is a fundraising and awareness walk of the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis. During the event, thousands of people come together in Forest Park for a fun-filled fundraising walk to honor friends and family members with Down syndrome, the most common genetic disability. The Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis works to benefit the lives of people with Down syndrome and their families through individual and family supports, education, public awareness and advocacy. We envision a future where all individuals with Down syndrome can reach their full potential.
