Step Up for Down Syndrome 2021

Team Pierce

Our son and brother Pierce has Down syndrome.  We didn't find out about this until his birth.  We felt sad and alone (which we shouldn't have, but didn't know any better).  On our drive home from the hospital we were contacted by the DSAGSL and offered a parent visit from another mother of a child with Down syndrome.  Between that visit and a 2 hour phone conversation with one of the people who worked at the DSAGSL where I was able to vent, discuss my worries and share my concerns I started feeling much better and not so much alone.  Then I was invited to a new parent's brunch and later a new mother's luncheon where we started meeting other families who were blessed with a child who has Ds.  Now our network is huge, I never feel alone, if anything I feel like we are part of a secret society that many don't know about and are definitely missing out on!  All of my fears and concerns are easily dismissed as I reach out to a friend I have made through the DSAGSL.  The DSAGSL makes me feel like my son is a rock star and celebrity:)  They are so loving and sincere it is wonderful to be a part of this organization.  We are also blessed that there are branches of the DSAGSL and we have a St. Charles County group that we have events with as well.  I am so grateful we have this support in our lives.  As Pierce grows their services also grow for him.  There are camps, activities, dances and events for families and for people with Ds at all ages.  They worked hard to keep everything virtual to continue to support families and individuals with Down syndrome.  Please help keep this amazing organization running by donating a little or a lot!  Thank you so much for your continued support for this amazing organization that helps our family tremendously.
